ABOUT ROBERT CEELY

Robert Ceely was born January 17, 1930 in Torrington, Connecticut, USA, and spent most of his youth in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
 

Music Education and Experience

Studied composition with Francis Judd Cooke at the New England Conservatory of Music, and with Darius Milhaud and Leon Kirchner at Mills College;  studied music composition and analysis with Roger Sessions, Milton Babbitt and Edward Cone at Princeton University; attended seminars with Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Milton Babbitt and Gyorgy Ligeti at Darmstadt, Germany
Fellowship at Tanglewood
Played trumpet in a Jazz Band, in a Junior  Symphony, and in the Istanbul amateur symphony orchestra in Istanbul, Turkey
Arranged for Jack Ring's Orchestra
